County records another COVID-19 death

Another Essex County resident has died after contracting COVID-19.

The resident, whose death was confirmed by the Essex County Health Department on Friday, March 12, was the second county resident to die after contracting COVID-19 last week.

The health department did not provide details about the person, where they were from or how old they were. The department, which has cited federal privacy laws, hasn’t shared those types of details since the start of the pandemic.

This latest death brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Essex County to 27.

The coronavirus vaccine rollout continues. As of Tuesday, March 16, the Essex County Health Department alone had administered 1,997 coronavirus vaccine doses. Altogether, about 18,503 vaccine doses have been administered to Essex County residents, according to the department. As of Friday, almost 18% of Essex County residents were fully vaccinated. More than 32% of county residents have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

The Essex County Health Department administered a vaccine clinic at the Crowne Plaza in Lake Placid on Thursday, March 18.
