We are excited about all that is going to be happening at the Lake Placid Public Library this summer. With most of the Main Street construction halted, it should make it easier for our patrons and visitors to come and visit.

We are back to our regular hours: 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The library requires masks at this time.

Along with all our new additions in fiction, non-fiction and children’s books, we are planning various activities for the children. To introduce the themes and events, we will have a video on our library Facebook page.

We started a program on July 1 called Get Outside! Children can pick up a beach bag full of goodies to read, write and draw outside.

On July 19, there will be a program called Fish Tales! Children can pick up supplies to create underwater characters.

On Aug. 2, we will have a program titled Create and Perform! Children can pick up supplies to create puppets, puppet theaters and performances.

From June to September, people can enjoy the Story Walks at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site and Mirror Lake Beach.

On Aug. 17, we will be making music with RiverJack Z. A song-writing workshop will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. This event is for families with children ages 4 and up. Please RSVP to the library at 518-523-3200 prior to the event. This project is made possible with the funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State legislature and administered by Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

We will have a poster contest this summer with The Bookstore Plus interpreting the theme of “Reading in Lake Placid.” Contest guidelines and submission forms are available at the library and bookstore or online at www.lakeplacidlibrary.org. Submissions due Monday, Aug. 23.

We will be hosting a pre-k Zoom story time with Miss Linda at 10:30 a.m. every Friday this summer. To join, please call us at 518-523-3200.
