LIBRARY NEWS: Library still offering curbside service, roof work is done

Student Kaedon Lyon was the winner of the Lake Placid Public Library's poster contest in the grades 6-8 category. (Photo provided)

Now that the hot summer is fading away and the cooler temps are reminding us that fall is upon us, the library continues to serve our patrons in the most safe, effective way possible.

We are happy to announce that the roof project is finished and the results are amazing. We have not been able to open our doors to the many visitors this year as we have done for so long; however, we enjoy being able to see our many patrons as they drop in to pick up their requests or come in to choose a book off the shelves.

Reminder: The library is still doing curbside service as well as limited patron browse and check-out service. We appreciate your patience and support.

Library hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. —

I Spy Dinosaurs in Lake Placid

Did you ever play I Spy with your family? Well, the LPPL and Miss Trish, speech-language pathologist, would like to invite you on a virtual I Spy Dinosaurs in Lake Placid adventure. You can check it out on our Facebook page and stop by the library for a free packet of supplies to make your own I Spy creations.

Each kit contains coloring sheets, crayons, and stickers. Don’t forget to sign out some I Spy and dinosaur books as well. A very special thanks to Trish Friedlander for sharing her dinosaurs and early literacy expertise with us!

StoryWalk at the John Brown Farm

The library, in conjunction with John Brown Lives!, has installed a StoryWalk of Christian Robinson’s picture book “You Matter” at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site. Families can walk along an easy path at the farm and read the pages of the newest title by Caldecott and Coretta Scott King illustrator honoree, Christian Robinson. Please share a comment on our Facebook page to let us know about your StoryWalk experience.

Results of poster contest

In August, the library, in coordination with The Bookstore Plus, held a poster contest interpreting the theme, My Favorite Reading Spot. The entries were all amazingly creative, making the judging process difficult. A special thanks to our judges: Elisa Lynch, Peter Lynch, Keela Rogers, and Bambi Pedu. The first place winners are listed below:

– Grades K-2, Rebecca Arnold and Dash Scull

– Grades 3-5, Ruth Arnold and Mason Lyon

– Grades 6-8, Kaedon Lyon We have many honorable mention participants including, Philip Arnold, Eloise Ruttan, Peter Farrell, Charlie Farrell, Sunny Gravat, Lucy Orringer, and Graham Scull.

If you have not picked up your prize, please stop in at the library as it is waiting for you. We would like to thank the Bookstore Plus for donating prizes for the winners and the Stewart’s Shops for donating the ice cream certificates for honorable mentions. In addition, the Lake Placid UPS Store generously donated the posters which are now displayed in our walkway windows, visible from the street.
