Members of the ambulance service all gathered at the station with lots of good food and enjoyed a fun day to help Ken get acquainted with all the volunteers of our ambulance service. Ken looks forward to serving the members of our community and  to meeting everyone. Best wishes to you Ken in your new position.    

The AuSable Forks Ambulance Service held a blood drive at their station on April 21; 29 people attended and 24 units of blood was collected. The lucky winner of the door prize was Warren Gallic. The next scheduled blood drive will be held on June 16 from 3 to 7 p.m.     

You may turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal on April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Town of Jay Community Center. This service is free, convenient, confidential and will be  environmentally-friendly disposed of.     

Cindi Murphy hosted a bake sale at Stewart’s in AuSable Forks on April 23 to benefit the annual Walk MS to be held on May 1 at the Harness Track in Saratoga Springs. This was a very successful sale and lots of delicious goodies were sold to those attending.

Cindi will be walking in honor of her friend and community resident Tracey SantaMaria who is valiantly fighting MS. Cindi thanks everyone who supported her sale and looks forward to her walk. Good luck Cindi.     

I am happy to announce The Lonesome Traveler Band will host their first dance to be held at their new location on May 1 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Adirondack Holiday Lodge located at the foot of Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington at the intersection of Route 86 and Whiteface Memorial Highway. Admission is free of charge, There will be a 50/50 and a special raffle. Food will be served by the Holiday Lodge.    

The AuSable Forks Fire Department will host its Firehouse Big Breakfast on May 1 from 8 to 11:30 am. The menu will include french toast, pancakes (reg. and blueberry), sausage gravy and biscuits, white or wheat toast, eggs, sausage, bacon, home fries, and mixed fruit and beverages including coffee, tea, orange juice or milk. Adults $7, seniors $6 and children $5. Eat in or take out.     

The North Jay Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting on May 1 at the home of Norma and Kenneth Joy at 293 Rolling Hill Road, AuSable Forks at 3 p.m. For more information, call 647-5143     

The AFFD will host a Chicken Barbecue at the firehouse on May 21 starting at 3 p.m. and continuing till all are served. The menu includes half chicken, corn on the cobb, baked beans, two side salads, beverage and dessert. Eat in or take out.  Advance tickets may be purchased by calling 647-5582 or purchased at the door. $7.50 adults, $6 seniors and children 5-12, under 5 are free.

Congratulations to Zachary Battisti of Jay, who was named to dean’s list at the University of Albany for the fall semester. 

Congratulations to the Junior Bowling Team of Kaitlin Wilkins, Brady Sweatt, Hayden Trow and Devi Lee . The Strikers from Willsboro placed first in Class C in the New York State USBC Youth Association Tournament held at Riverside Lanes in AuSable Forks on March 19. The Strikers will compete in the finals in Syracuse on April 30. Good luck Team Strikers!  

Congratulations to RJ Pray who bowled the first 300 of his bowling career during league play at Riverside Lanes on April 18. RJ bowls in the AuSable Club Monday night league and is a member of the Martineau Law Offices team. Great bowling RJ!!!     

Congratulations to AVCS Athletic Director Kurt Munson who was recently chosen Athletic Director of the Year in Chapter 7 by the state Athletic Administrators Association. He was presented with this award at the awards dinner by Superintendent Paul Savage.     

Daniel and Tina Fenton of AuSable Forks, announce the engagement of their daughter Jennifer to Christopher Chamberlain, son of Scott and Myrtle Chamberlain of Dallas, Pa. The happy couple are busy planning their wedding to be held on July 9. Congratulations Jennifer and Christopher.     

Updates

I am happy to report Luke Randy Garcia had a good week and enjoyed Easter with a huge egg hunt at his grandparents home. He continues to be evaluated by his cardiologists.  

Roy Ano has been hospitalized again and his family requests prayers for him.  

Jackie Ashley Kimbel continues her chemo with her next round being administered on April 25. She thanks everyone for their support and prayers and welcomes cards. Her address is: 110 Dutton Drive, New Castle, DE 19720-5454.  

I received a note from Agnes Bombard this week asking me to update my readers on her son Jim’s condition. He was placed on the transplant list on March 22. He is waiting for the call to go to Burlington for a kidney transplant. She thanks everyone for their prayers and asked for continued prayers for her son and her husband John.

John, who is a diabetic, is home after a 10-day hospital stay and surgery. More information will appear in next week’s column.
