As you have probably heard, the town’s chief financial officer Shirley Lawrence will be leaving her post in the near future. If you are looking to meet our town’s new financial officer, Nicole Forbes, go to the town hall and ask for her. When asked for a picture, she, and Shirley, deferred to their mutual shyness of having their pictures taken. So, if you would like to see who is earning your $16 an hour tax dollars, stop by the town hall and say ‘hello.’ I’m not sure when the town board in its infinite wisdom hired Nicole. I looked through the online town board minutes to see mention or a vote of the hire, which I heard pays $16 and hour, but could not find any.

Great news from the Connor family. Do you remember from last summer when Aaron Connor completed work on his Eagle Scout project, namely the six new picnic tables with benches that are now being used in Heritage Park in beautiful downtown Wilmington?

Aaron is currently working toward being officially proclaimed Eagle Scout with no more to be done. Now his brother Zander is also working toward his Eagle Scout designation. We will have to wait to see just what his project will be, and when he is planning on its completion. Good luck Zander as you plan and carry out your project and congratulations on achieving a goal reached by few.

Have you ever played broomball? Well, plan on learning how, or at least cheer on those who will be playing. The fun sporting event is being sponsored by the Wilmington Youth Board and will take place at the Wilmington Youth Center skating rink on Friday night, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. The center on Park Road is currently open only on weekends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, from 1 to 8 on Saturday and from 1 to 6 on Sunday.

The search is continuing for a full time director and also for furniture to be used in the center. Call 946-7174 if you can help out.

The Whiteface Mountain Regional Visitors’ Bureau has announced the date of the 2011 Newcomers’ Dinner, or the Wilmington Community Dinner as it is now known. But whichever you call it, the cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m. with the buffet dinner following at 7 on March 15. The cost for the buffet will be $20 and we are being asked to RSVP by Tuesday, March 8 to either 946-2255 or e-mail info@WhitefaceRegion.com.

Once again, as it has been for the 25 prior Newcomers’ Nights, hosts Linda and Jerry Bottcher will welcome all to their establishment, The Hungry Trout.

Nominations for Citizen of the Year will be accepted by Wilmington’s Visitors’ Bureau until Sunday, Feb. 20. You will need to pick up a copy of the nomination application at the bureau which is located next to Heritage Park on Main Street, Wilmington between the Whiteface Methodist Church and the E.M. Cooper Memorial Public Library and across from Lake Everest Pizza and Deli.

The Wilmington Historical Society (WHS) will hold its February meeting on Wednesday, Feb.9 because of the fear that the impending snowstorm would seriously hamper attendance. The open discussion for this month’s meeting will be, “Disasters in Wilmington,” which, hopefully, this incoming snow will not be counted as!

The WHS meets at the Wilmington Community Center at 7 p.m. for the open discussion, with the regular meeting starting at 8 p.m. The public is invited to stay for the business part of the evening.

I received this forwarded e-mail from Jeri Wright regarding an upcoming discussion whose purpose is to develop a Wilmington Recreation Plan. According to Kathy Daggett, who seems to be the initiator of this get-together, the purpose of the meeting is to gather volunteers to identify Wilmington’s recreation resources and determine “what we currently have” and “what we need for current and future projects.”

Daggett wants attendees to “bring your thoughts about Wilmington’s outdoor activity resources” with you. For more information, contact Daggett at 946-2445.
