LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees on Monday, March 18 voted unanimously to increase the price of Main Street annual parking permits and equalize all parking lot and street parking meter rates to 50 cents per 15 minutes.

Annual parking permits for Main Street employees and residents have been $150 since 2016.

The village board voted unanimously to increase this price to $200, which is in line with inflation and other recent price increases, according to Trustee Jackie Kelly.

“This is a fair and equitable increase,” she said.

The village will continue to offer prorated passes throughout the year, with prices adjusted accordingly.

This pass is different than the resident parking pass, which was rolled out last year and is administered through the North Elba town clerk’s office. The resident parking pass is free for all people who own property or are registered to vote in Lake Placid and it is valid for two years. It allows residents of Lake Placid and North Elba to park in metered spaces from 7 to 11 a.m. at no charge. About 630 resident parking passes have been issued so far, according to Deputy Town Clerk Adrienne Relyea.

The annual parking permit — the permit receiving the price increase — is only available to Main Street employees and residents and is valid for one year. It allows permit holders to park at designated parking spots along Main Street all day at no charge and is administered by the Lake Placid Police Department.

Annual parking permits turn over on May 10. The new rates will go into effect on that day. However, people can apply for a new annual parking permit at any time before May 10; they do not have to wait until the new rates go into effect to renew their permit.

The village board also voted to standardize metered parking rates across parking lots and street parking spaces. Some metered parking spaces currently charge 50 cents per 15 minutes of parking, while other spaces charge 50 cents per 30 minutes of parking. The new standardized rate for all metered parking spaces will be 50 cents per 15 minutes, or $2 per hour. People who choose to pay through the mobile app instead of directly at a meter currently incur additional fees, but Kelly said Wednesday that the village aims to lower the parking fees on the app to encourage more people to use it. The village has not decided what that lower rate for the app may be. There is not yet a definite date for when the meter rate changes will take effect; the village plans to schedule a time for the meter company to come and adjust the rates.

Starting at $1.44/week.
