BOCES seeks input on new trades program

SARANAC LAKE — Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES is looking for input on what type of program to add at Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake.

Administrators have been reviewing data and gathering feedback from key stakeholders about needs in the area. Career and Technical Education programs like the ones run at AEC must meet certain criteria to be approved by the state.

“We’ve narrowed down our options to a few areas, and now we really need feedback from our community about what is most needed,” said AEC Principal Stephanie Murphy. “We appreciate any input that we can get.”

To take the survey, go to https://forms.office.com/r/QRkMuNXiRF or visit the news section on fehb.org.

The AEC team has the rare opportunity to expand programming due to a newly free classroom space on our campus. The previously offered Health Occupations program had to shut down here with the departure of the staff member accredited to teach the program.

AEC currently has five Career and Technical Education programs offered to high school juniors and seniors in the Lake Placid, Long Lake, Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake school districts. Students gain hands-on experience learning a trade half of the day at AEC, and then spend the rest of the day in their home district fulfilling other course requirements. Starting at $1.44/week.
