NCCC to host solar eclipse lecture on March 8

SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College is inviting the public to join the college community for a program about the upcoming total solar eclipse.

Seth McGowan, president of the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory in Tupper Lake, will present “The Great Adirondack Eclipse” at 3 p.m. this Friday, March 8. The program will take place in S-19, Mulholland Hall, on the college’s Saranac Lake campus, and it will also be available online.

McGowan, who is also a member of the college board of trustees, will describe the “secret recipe” behind the upcoming April 8 eclipse in the Adirondacks. He will share several perspectives on the upcoming eclipse, as well as the history of eclipses within the Adirondack Park Blue Line. Attendees will hear about the impact to communities within the path of totality, and what is expected in the six million acre Adirondack Park.

The program will last approximately an hour and will end with a question-and-answer session with the audience.

The presentation will also be streamed via Zoom. A link will be shared on the college’s eclipse page — www.nccc.edu/eclipse — on the day of the program. For more information, contact Chris Knight by email at cknight@nccc.edu.

Starting at $1.44/week.
