Lake Placid Institute announces summer events

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Institute will open the summer season on Tuesday, July 11 with its summer fundraiser.

It’s Summer — The Party will be held at the Whiteface Club & Resort Moose Lodge from 6 to 8 p.m., and will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. Admission is $100 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at lakeplacidinstitute.org.

The LPI will again offer its John C. Bogle Roundtable Series; the Saturday morning breakfast presentations begin at 8:30 and will be held at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Annex. Breakfast will be provided by Saranac Sourdough. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 at the door and $10 for students. Tickets should be purchased at lakeplacidarts.org. Guest speakers will be novelist Stephen Kiernan (July 22), Mountain Lake PBS CEO Bill McColgan (July 29) and Olympic Alpine skier Andrew Weibrecht (Aug. 5).

On July 22, critically-acclaimed novelist Stephen Kiernan (“Universe of Two” and “The Baker’s Secret”) will discuss his new novel, “The Glass Chateau.” Set in France in the turbulent aftermath of World War II, Kiernan’s latest work is a gripping tale of hope, healing, and the redemptive power of art. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

On July 29, Bill McColgan, CEO of Mountain Lake PBS, will discuss the current media landscape and how best to process the news cycle. Bill’s perspective comes from 25-plus years in media leadership, television production, and partnership development. After the presentation, all are welcome to see Dressing the Abbey, the costumes of “Downton Abbey,” in the LPCA Gallery.

On Aug. 5, Lake Placid’s Andrew Weibrecht will talk about how he won two Olympic medals and honed his racing skills on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain, taking attendees behind the scenes of his athletic training, work with the New York Ski Educational Foundation and his career path.

Starting at $1.44/week.
