LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Sinfonietta will launch its 2023 season — “Magic in the Mountains” — with the first of its free Park Series Concerts at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 6 in Mid’s Park on Main Street.

This six-concert series will continue on the next five Wednesday evenings. Each concert will begin at 7 and last about one hour.

All of these concerts are free of charge to attend, but donations are always appreciated. A nightly raffle of goods donated by area merchants will also be held in support of the orchestra.

The July 6 concert, aptly named “American Abracadabra,” promises an exhilarating celebration of the week of July 4th. In addition, the program will feature a work by Lake Placid’s own Victor Herbert, “Pan Americana,” and the beloved patriotic anthem, “God Bless America.” There will also be a performance of Leroy Anderson’s “Fiddle Faddle” and selections from “The Music Man.”

The Sinfonietta will perform a total of 16 times between July 6 and Aug. 13. In addition to the Park Series, the orchestra will offer Sunday Symphony Series performances on July 9, 16, 22, 30 and Aug. 6 and 10 at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. There will also be a children’s concert on July 21 at St. Agnes School and performances in Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake and North Creek.
