Lake Placid Sinfonietta concerts begin July 6

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Sinfonietta’s 2023 summer season runs from July 6 to Aug. 13. For details, visit lakeplacidsinfonietta.org.

Thursday July 6, 7 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Park Concert: “American Abracadabra” in Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will feature an hour of rousing music to celebrate the week of the Fourth of July. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue. Rain site concerts will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Sunday, July 9, 7:30 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Hot Magic” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. This concert brings award-winning and internationally acclaimed virtuoso saxophonist Valentin Kovalev to play Erwin Schulhoff’s Hot-Sonate with the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. Also on the program is Mozart’s Jupiter Symphony and Four Episodes by Bloch. A complimentary meet the artist reception follows the performance. T

Wednesday, July 12, 7 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Park Concert: “Crystal Ballroom” Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will feature music of dance that will get you moving. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue. Rain site concerts will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Thursday, July 13, 7 p.m.

Adirondack Series Concert: Free Community Concert at the Hotel Saranac, sponsored by the Hotel Saranac and Adirondack Health. Have a snack or beverage at the upstairs bar, then enjoy a free Sinfonietta concert in the Hotel Ballroom. The program will be a mix of orchestra favorites highlighted by the lively and tuneful Romanian Folk Dances by Bartok.

Sunday, July 16, 7:30 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Spellbinding Images” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. The Sinfonietta presents the brilliance of harpist Gretchen Van Hoesen bringing Ravel’s lyrical and evocative Introduction and Allegro to life, followed by Gustav Mahler’s beloved First Symphony. A complimentary meet the artist reception follows the performance.

Wednesday, July 19, 7 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Park Concert: “Now You See It …” Sponsored by Price Chopper’s Golub Foundation in Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will feature music from around the world. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue. Rain site concerts will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Friday, July 21, 10:30 a.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Children’s Concert In the gymnasium of St. Agnes School, Hillcrest Avenue, Lake Placid. This free concert for children of all ages and their adult friends, will feature eye-level seating to enable kids to really watch the musicians and their instruments at work. The concert will feature rousing and fascinating selections designed to open ears and inspire young listeners.

Saturday, July 22, 7:30 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “String Sorcery” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. The orchestra welcomes acclaimed Young Concert Artist Bella Hristova to perform Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Along with this magnificent concerto, the orchestra will present Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. A complimentary meet the artist reception follows the performance. Tickets are available online, by phone or in person at the LPCA box office.

Wednesday, July 26, 7 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Park Concert: “Wizard’s Tale” in Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will include the sounds of the stage, from Broadway to the great Opera houses of the world. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue. Rain site concerts will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Adirondack Series Concert: Lake Placid Sinfonietta concert at the Tannery Pond Center, North Creek. Tickets are available in advance and at the door through the Tannery Pond Center, which can be reached at 518-251-2505.

Sunday, July 30, 7:30 p.m.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Woodland Sprites” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. In a program that echoes the world of nature, the orchestra presents Antonio Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” featuring Concertmaster Daniel Szasz. Also on the program is a unique work, “Deep Forest” by American composer Mabel Wheeler Daniels and Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances.” A complimentary meet-the-artist reception follows the performance. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will feature a mix of orchestral music based on tunes from around the world. Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Mesmerizing Melodies” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. Seagle Festival artist Natalie Sweeney sings Aaron Copland’s “Eight Poems of Emily Dickenson” complemented by Barber’s ever-favorite “Adagio for Strings” and Bartok’s “Dance Suite” along with “Capriccio Espagnol” by Rimsky-Korsakov. This concert is presented in collaboration with Historic Saranac Lake in celebration of their newly acquired collection of artifacts belonging to the renowned composer. A complimentary meet-the-artist reception follows the performance.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Park Concert: “Sorcerer’s Wand” sponsored by NBT Bank in Mid’s Park in downtown Lake Placid. Admission is free to this lakeside concert which will feature some of the most beloved classical and pops music ever written for orchestra. In the event of rain or temperatures below 65, the concert will be moved to the sanctuary of St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue. Rain site concerts will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Thursday, Aug. 10, 6 p.m.

Adirondack Series Concert: Lake Placid Sinfonietta concert at The Wild Center Enjoy this early evening concert in the Great Hall of The Wild Center. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for museum members and free for ages 4-17. Tickets are available online at The Wild Center, 518-359-7800.

Lake Placid Sinfonietta Symphony Series Concert: “Mystical Light” at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. This evening will begin with Respighi’s “Ancient Airs and Dances, Suite No. 3,” followed by principal horn James Rester’s performance of Mozart’s “Horn Concerto No. 3,” and closing the season with Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1.” A complimentary meet the artist reception follows the performance.
