Out of the Darkness walk set for Sept. 18 in Lake Placid

Volunteers from throughout the northern New York will soon be joining the quarter of a million people who are walking in towns across the United States to draw attention to the fight for suicide prevention.

The annual northeastern New York Out of the Darkness Walks, hosted by the Capital Region New York chapter, including the North Country walk, will be held on Sunday, Sept. 18 being held at the North Elba Show Grounds.

These walk supports the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s education and support programs and its bold goal to reduce the annual U.S. rate of suicide 20 % by the year 2025.

Last year, close to 2,000 walkers raised over $250,000 in northeastern New York, and this year’s goal is the same amount. The North Country walk’s goal is $25,000 and with at least 125 participants. Registration is free and there is not a fundraising requirement. The walk will include awareness and memorial activities.
