10-hour power outage planned for Lake Placid Tuesday night, Sept. 20

LAKE PLACID — There will be a 10-hour power outage in this village beginning at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, according to National Grid.

Construction has been underway since July to replace infrastructure on the 45-mile radial transmission line serving the village, including the installation of new wooden and steel poles along easements and right of ways. The project will cost about $8 million and will increase reliability and create a more resilient line to the village. National Grid officials say the planned outage is necessary as part of the project.

The village of Lake Placid operates an independent municipal electric department and electricity is delivered to the village’s system through National Grid’s transmission network. National Grid will de-energize the existing transmission line at 8 p.m. on Sept. 20, and crews will work overnight to replace poles. National Grid and the Lake Placid Electric Department will work together to restore power by 6 a.m. on Sept. 21.

There is no anticipated interruption of school for students, faculty and staff of the Lake Placid Central School District. Additionally, village and town leaders are working with local businesses to mitigate impacts. Residents with questions or concerns should contact the Lake Placid Village Electric Department at 518-523-2597.

Starting at $1.44/week.
