Preview of this week’s Lake Placid News

LAKE PLACID – In this week’s Lake Placid News, we report on the proposed short-term vacation rental regulations that are being drawn up by the village of Lake Placid and town of North Elba.

Staff Writer Griffin Kelly gives us two stories. He was at the public hearing for the proposed regulations Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Lake Placid Conference Center and he tries to answer the question, “Will vacation rental regulations be changed after packed hearing?”

Editor Andy Flynn presents a public service story on recycling household batteries in the Olympic Region. Not many places offer this type of recycling, but the village of Lake Placid’s program is gaining popularity.

Griffin spoke with Kathy Ford, who is retiring this week after being with the Adworkshop marketing firm in Lake Placid for the past 40 years.

On the Arts page, we have a story about Lake Placid High School students who are studying the history of Alexander Hamilton and will eventually see the hit musical “Hamilton.”

In other news, a propane delivery driver recently died in Keene after being pinned under a truck, the Empire State Winter Games will be welcoming video gamers this week, and our local representatives in the New York State Legislature voted against most gun control measures that were passed by the Senate and Assembly earlier this week.

In addition to columns from Naj Wikoff (On the Scene) and Martha Allen (Martha Sez), we have a Lake Placid Diet update from Editor Andy Flynn.
