AVCS proposed tax levy comes in below NY cap

AuSable Valley Central School District will present a proposed budget, including a 2.33 percent increase in the tax levy, at a budget hearing Tuesday, May 8 starting at 6:30 p.m.

On May 15 voters will be asked to approve the budget, as well as to vote for three school board members.

The full budget is not yet available to the public, although it will be released before the hearing. Superintendent Paul Savage II released key data points:

The tax levy for the district is proposed to be $13,807,192 in the 2018-19 school year. Savage said the 2.33 percent increase falls under the district’s maximum allowable limit for the tax cap, which is set at 2.37 percent.

The budget would spend a total of $33,076,079. The district relies on state aid and other forms of revenue to meet its budget, including the tax levy.

The estimated tax rate per $1,000 assessed value will be $17.24, or $1,724 for a property valued at $100,000.

Three incumbents, all unopposed, are running for the school board: Mark Allen, Robyn Pray and Sherry Snow.

Voting will take place May 15, 2018 from noon to 9 p.m. in the AuSable Valley Middle-High School cafeteria in Clintonville. There are no propositions on the ballot.

Starting at $1.44/week.
