It was 75 degrees and sunny on Wednesday, but Whiteface Mountain still has one more day of skiing and snowboarding left in it.

Whiteface Mountain Ski Center in Wilmington will reopen on Saturday, May 5 only, with top-to-bottom skiing on the Little Whiteface spur, Assistant General Manager Mike LeBlanc announced Wednesday.

“We’re pretty excited,” LeBlanc said. “This is our latest opening on record.”

Previously the latest day of skiing at Whiteface was May 1, he added.

Nine trails will be open between the Little Whiteface summit and the base lodge, accessible by two chairlifts: Face Lift and Little Whiteface.

“It’s nice, perfect spring conditions,” LeBlanc said, “a nice, soft corn snow.”

The National Weather Service forecasts mostly sunny skies with a high temperature of 63 Saturday in Wilmington.

Whiteface maintained regular weekday skiing up through its pond skimming event April 21, which had been postponed several times. Then it reopened this past Saturday and Sunday, April 28 and 30. Several hundred people skied there this weekend, according to LeBlanc.

Whiteface is owned by the New York state and run by the state Olympic Regional Development Authority.

Starting at $1.44/week.
