This is the second year of the event, and state Olympic Development Agency spokesman Jon Lundin said the number of breweries participating will grow to more than 40 this year.

Most breweries will bring two or three beers, so that means there will be more than 80 different brews to taste.

“Whether you’re an ale guy, a stout guy, a lager guy, a hefeweizen beer drinker, there’s going to be a beer for every palate,” Lundin said.

Brewers are coming from as far away as Maine, Michigan, California, Colorado and Hawaii. But all the local heavy hitters will be there as well: Lake Placid Pub and Brewery and Great Adirondack Brewing Company are sponsoring it along with Saratoga Eagle and the Craft Beer Guild Distributors of New York. Blue Line Brewery in Saranac Lake, which opened just over a year ago, will also be serving this year, as well as brewers from Canton, Plattsburgh and Lake George.

“We’ve got a really nice representation of beers from local and all over,” Lundin said.

Since organizers are doubling the size of the breweries participating, Lundin said they are also hoping to double the number of people who attend.

The idea for the event came from Rob Kane Jr. and Sr., who own Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood and the brewery they operate there, Great Adirondack Brewing Company. They pitched the idea to ORDA President and CEO Ted Blazer when he was having dinner at their restaurant one night in early 2012. Blazer thought it was a great idea and went with it.

At last year’s Brewfest, organizers were thrilled with how the event came together and talked about how they hoped it would grow.

Lundin said the people attending the inaugural Lake Placid Brewfest last year enjoyed it, and so did the brewers. Brewers talked it up as they were traveling around the country to other brewfests over the last year, he said.

“They very much enjoyed coming to Lake Placid,” Lundin said. “This is growing in large part because of word of mouth.”

A Watertown-based band, Annie in the Water, will also play during the brewfest. The three-piece band bills itself as a high-energy acoustic jam group that blends blues, hip hop, rock and bluegrass influences.

“We are looking forward to jammin out for everyone and enjoying some choice brews,” the band posted on its Facebook page.

Food will be for sale at the event as well through ORDA’s caterer, Centerplate.

Beer drinkers at the event will pay $40 at the door and get a 4-ounce tasting glass embossed with a Lake Placid Brewfest logo, plus 12 tokens for tastes of beer. Designated drivers get in for $10.
