It wasn’t so long ago that Meissner was a future elite skater, training and striving to medal alongside other top skaters like Sasha Cohen. After a season where she landed a triple axel at the 2005 National Championships and placed third, she moved to the Senior international level for the 2005-2006 season, competing in the 2006 National Championships.

From there, she was named to the 2006 Olympic Figure Skating Team alongside Cohen and Hughes, becoming the youngest athlete on the US Olympic Team overall. She placed sixth.

At the 2006 World Championships, she won the gold medal after a difficult program that included two triple-triple combinations. She also won the 2007 national title.

Now, Kimmie is still very busy skating in shows and coaching.

“I’m coaching a ton and finishing school,” Meissner said. “I’ve been show skating also and have more stuff coming up in the summer and winter season.”

The upcoming season’s shows include Disson holiday and romance-themed shows, Michael Weiss’ show “Ice Champions” and a skating show in Brazil.

Meissner started in school studying Exercise Science then switched to English. She has also been working on a writing career and worked as a figure skating researcher for NBC at the 2014 Olympics.

“I’ve been working with local newspapers, writing stories,” Meissner said. “I’m also the new editor of our local newsletter in Bel Air, Maryland. I really enjoy writing.”

While she was in Lake Placid, Meissner had a chance to teach private lessons and a seminar, which was a mix of adult skaters (here for the adult skating week that coincided with the last week of the regular skating camp) and younger skaters.

“There was an interesting mix of people in the seminar,” Meissner said. “I did more of a power class with them as opposed to just focusing on jumps and spins.”

Last here in December for the Holiday Festival on Ice Show, Meissner enjoyed being back, especially during the summer.

“It seems I’m never here during the summer,” she said. “I had some time off the ice, and just walked around and sat by the lake. There’s so much to do here, it’s a great place to be.”
