Lake Placid volleyball falls in state tourney

MASSENA – The Lake Placid volleyball team’s postseason run came to an end Wednesday as Chateaugay swept the Blue Bombers in the first round of the Class D state tournament.

The Bulldogs downed Lake Placid 25-12, 25-16, 25-10 to advance to the state quarterfinals, where they will meet Section 2’s Waterford on Saturday in Gloversville.

Shelby Yanulavich was the star of the match for Chateaugay with 20 service points, five aces and seven kills. Teammate Kylie Hanley chipped in 10 points and 15 assists.

Lake Placid advanced to Wednesday’s game after capturing its first Section VII title since 1992 with a win over perennial champion Northern Adirondack. NAC had won 29-straight sectional titles going into that match last Saturday.

The Blue Bombers finished the season with a 3-15 record.
