My name is Liza Amirault, and I am a 16-year-old senior at Keene Central School. I was a speaker and panelist at the Holding Up Half the Sky Women’s Workshop, and I was misquoted in the article about this workshop in the July 3, 2015 issue of your paper.

It was reported that I “hoped for a career as a stay at home mom.” While I admire stay at home mothers, especially my stay at home mom, I clearly stated my hoped for career choice was to become a doctor.

The thrust of my entire presentation was how my 83-year-old relative, in a conversation regarding my future career choice, negated what I said and praised my male cousin who has the same aspiration. And ironically the only man in the room, your reporter, did not hear this career aspiration of earning my medical degree and decided for himself that my “hoped for career” was to become a stay at home mother. This misquotation is the reason I would like a correction or a retraction of the article. If necessary I can easily supply a copy of my speech.
