ROTARY CLUB NEWS: Rotary Club of Lake Placid gives generously far and wide
The Rotary Club of Lake Placid is best known for its local volunteering and philanthropy, like the Dam Duck Race that supports community projects ranging from Shipman Youth Center, to the Ecumenical Food Pantry, to Adirondack Film, to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
In addition to giving locally, our club partners with other Rotary Clubs around the world to provide funds for international humanitarian projects. Our club is part of Rotary International with a global reach. The following is a list of projects our club has supported over the past four years:
Uganda — Supported the educational fees for three girls over three years in partnership with the Rotary Clubs of Ottawa South and Mbarara, Uganda.
Zimbabwe — Supported the cost of shipping 32 incubators to Harare, Zimbabwe in partnership with the Rotary Club of Ottawa.
Thailand — Provided funds for food and rice to the Wildflower home in Thailand through the nonprofit Together We Can Change the World.
Guatemala — Provided five Java model cook stoves for families in Guatemala. (See photo above.)
Lebanon — Individual member donations to victims of the explosion in Beirut, Lebanon through the Los Angeles Rotary Cedars Club.
Puerto Rico — Helped purchase mattresses to citizens who experienced devastation from Hurricane Maria in 2018.
Croatia — Sent funds to the Rotary Club of Zagreb Maksimar to help purchase Pediatric Endoscopy Equipment.
Haiti — Supported the continued reconstruction of schools in Haiti.
Cambodia — Supported a dental clinic in Cambodia through a Rotary Club in Colorado and Together We Can Change the World.
Jakarta Indonesia — Support the cost of identity papers for LGBTQI persons.
Ghana — Supported a Global Grant with the Cornwall Sunrise Club to build a vocational School in Ghana.
By partnering with Rotary Clubs around the globe, we can have a substantial impact in making the world a better place.
