George C. Bishop III

George C. Bishop III, 84, died on Feb. 6, 2021, putting the “Gone Fishing” sign on the door and joining his hunting dogs.

Born on Feb. 11, 1937, George came to Lake Placid via the Paul Smith’s College forestry program.

You may remember him as a local in the 1960s teaching skiing at Whiteface Mountain, doing a flip dismount from a water ski or refinishing a boat at the Lake Placid lake boat landing before he moved to Nevada. He was the consummate outdoorsman, skier, hunter, fisherman and resourceful in any situation.

His engaging personality, ever-present smile and kindness to friend or stranger made our world a better place.

He leaves a wife, two daughters, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many friends wishing for just 5 more minutes.
