LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid girls soccer team defeated the previously unbeaten Schroon Lake Wildcats 2-1 at home on Monday, Oct. 6.
The Blue Bombers connected on a goal in each half to secure the victory. The Wildcats entered the contest with a perfect 9-0 record overall.
Ella Moodey got the ball rolling for Lake Placid, scoring on an assist from Kendra Levitt around 29 minutes into the contest.
However, Schroon Lake’s Piper Larabee scored around a minute later to even the game at 1-1, before halftime.
After the intermission, Levitt sent a cross pass to the front of the net that deflected off a Wildcats’ player to secure the victory.
“We played good team defense and held a Schroon Lake team that has been scoring five or six goals in most games to just one goal,” Lake Placid’s head coach Heather Brewer said. “We also created a lot of chances offensively between Ella Moodey and Kendra Levitt.”
The Blue Bombers finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots, as the team’s goalie, Emma Clark, had seven saves. The Wildcats’ Sydney Hart had eight.
After kicking off the season with a 1-4 record, the Blue Bombers have won six of their last seven games, which have included victories over two state-ranked teams. The lone game that they didn’t win was a 1-1 draw with the Moriah Vikings.
“This was another big win for our team coming off of last week defeating an undefeated Boquet and beating a Chazy team with a good record,” Brewer said.
Lake Placid is now 7-4-1 overall.

Levitt lifts Bombers past Chazy

Levitt buried a goal in overtime as the Lake Placid girls soccer team defeated the Chazy Eagles 1-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Levitt’s goal, which came off an assist from Cecilia Norfolk, was scored a little more than two minutes into overtime.
“It was a hard-fought game that could have gone either way,” Brewer said. “Both teams had some chances, but our best chance came early into the first overtime when Cecilia Norfolk sent the ball over the top for Kendra Levitt to run onto and she was able to create a breakaway and finish a shot into the far side of the net.”
The Eagles finished with a 7-6 advantage in shots as the Blue Bombers’ goalie, Clark, had six saves. Chazy’s Sylvie Brassard recorded five.

Bombers blast past Griffins on Moodey’s goal

Moodey scored on a direct kick in the opening half on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 30 to lift the Lake Placid girls soccer team to a 1-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Boquet Valley Griffins.
“During this run, we have scored 11 goals and conceded only three,” Brewer said. “We’ve also had 3 shutouts during this same game span.”
The two squads finished with 12 shots each, while the Blue Bombers’ goalie, Clark, recorded six saves in the win. Boquet Valley’s Ella Pulsifer had nine.
We played great team defense all over the field and capitalized on a great scoring chance,” Brewer said. “It’s been exciting to see our team improve over the last few weeks. The last time we played Boquet, they defeated us 3-0. It’s never an easy win on Boquet’s field, so that along with the fact that it was their first loss was a great accomplishment for our team. We have a young team (one senior and three juniors), but a great fighting spirit and willingness to learn.”
