The win marks the third in a row for Lake Placid, which improved to 4-4 overall. The Blue Bombers, which had scored just four goals in their first five games of the season, have now scored nine in their last three. The team defeated Northern Adirondack 3-0 last week and Indian/Long Lake 3-0 on Monday.

Lake Placid’s Ella Moody scored twice in the opening half on Wednesday, while Cecilia Norfolk and Eliza Fitzsimmons each added assists. Saranac Lake’s Brisa Brunette had a strong outing, scoring one goal and adding an assist. Wren Crist also found the back of the net for the Red Storm, while Tyler Burth chipped in with an assist.

Saranac Lake had either led or was tied with the Blue Bombers for nearly all of Wednesday’s game, before Colby burried a pass from Fitzsimmons at 37:30 into the second half.

“It was a hard-fought game,” Lake Placid’s head coach Heather Brewer said. “Both sides played with a lot of intensity. Saranac Lake is a fast team and (they) put us under pressure early, and Tyler Burth does a good job setting up her players from the midfield.”

Brunette gave the Red Storm a 1-0 advantage a little more than six minutes into the first half off a pass from Burth. The lead lasted for around 20 minutes before Moodey evened the contest with an assist from Norfolk.

Saranac Lake reclaimed the lead with a few minutes left before the intermission, when Crist connected on Brunette’s pass. However, Moodey quickly tied the contest at 2-2, less than two minutes later.

“We were able to answer each time they scored in the first half and finished off the game with the winning goal with only 2:30 minutes left,” Brewer said. “It was a full team effort for us today.

The Blue Bombers finished with a 13-4 edge in shots. Saranac Lake’s Emma Akey recorded nine saves in net, while Lake Placid’s goalie Emma Clark had two.

Despite falling, Red Storm head coach Jason Wamsganz said his team did a lot of good things, such as moving the ball well and finishing some chances.

“(But) we made some mistakes and Lake Placid did a great job capitalizing,” he said. “We are not playing consistently well in the different phases of the game. The transition game continues to plague us. We have to start switching the field and (give) and (recieve) the ball more quickly. We lost our shape, and subsequently, we are a step late in getting to the ball or our mark. Lake Placid did a nice job limiting their mistakes and for that, they won.”
