SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls cross country teams swept the Sept. 30 home meet at the Dewey Mountain Recreation Center.

The Red Storm boys defeated the Peru Nighthawks 25-32 and topped the Northeastern Clinton Cougars 15-50. Lake Placid’s boys, which did not race against Saranac Lake, split the meet. They topped the Cougars 16-43, but fell to the Nighthawks 19-39.

Meanwhile, the Red Storm girls continued their dominating season by securing a 21-41 win over Peru and a 15-50 victory over NCCS. The Blue Bomber girls had just four runners and were marked as an incomplete team.

The Red Storm boys took six of the top 12 spots, with Emmett VanBuskirk coming across the finish line second with a time of 20 minutes and 21 seconds. He was followed by teammate Keaton Daley (17:40) in third. Peru’s Michael Welc won the boys race in 17:09.

Saranac Lake’s five scorers were rounded out by Rory Popp (18:11) in fifth, Ebin Meissner (18:30) in seventh and Ben Zieman (19:02) in 10th. The Red Storm’s Colin Glascock also had a solid day, placing 11th in 19:03.

Lake Placid was led by Graham Scull, who finished in eighth in 18:47. Blue Bombers brothers Jim and Doug Gugliemi placed ninth and 14th, respectively.

On the girls side, Lake Placid’s Leila Fey (18:57) was the top finisher, edging out Peru’s Maddy Welc (20:07), who placed second and Saranac Lake’s Nora Daley (23:21), who finished third. Blue Bomber teammate Norah Francis (20:21) placed fourth, while the Red Storm’s Meadow Nashett (20:26).

After Nashett’s finish, eight more Saranac Lake girls finished inside the top-15, to secure another meet victory.

The Red Storm and Blue Bombers cross country teams will race again in Plattsbrugh at the SUNY Plattsburgh Fieldhouse at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
