PERU — The Lake Placid boys and girls track teams both finished in fourth place at the Section VII Track and Field Championships at Peru High School on Tuesday.
The Saranac Central Spartans swept the boys and girls team titles in Class C. In the past, all Section VII schools competed in one big event against one another; however, this year, three schools — Beekmantown, Peru and Plattsburgh — were moved up to Class B.
In the Class C competition, the Spartans claimed the boys team championship with 246 points, while Saranac Lake followed in second with 138 points. Lake Placid’s boys finished with 39 points for fourth overall out of eight teams.
Saranac Central took first place in the girls competition with 273.5 points, while the Red Storm girls scored 147.5. The Blue Bombers girls also finished fourth with 38 points.
Lake Placid’s Leila Fey, a seventh-grader, came up big for her team in the distance events, placing second in both the 1,500 and the 3,000. She was the lone Blue Bomber girl to crack the top three in an event.
Fey led most of the way in the 1,500, however, Saranac Central’s Sienna Boulds caught her on the home stretch to steal first. Fey finished in 4 minutes, 56.60 seconds in that race, while teammate Jenna Fay was seventh in 5:31.37. Boulds won with a time of 4:55.61.
Identically, in the 3,000 race, Boulds (10:55.09) once again edged Fey (10:58.34) at the last lap to seal another victory. Lake Placid’s Norah Francis (11:40.46) was fourth and Saranac Lake’s Cadence Kennedy (11:52.55) was fifth.

Gagnon led the Blue Bomber girls in the hurdles events. She kicked off the day in sixth in the 100 hurdles in 20:46, before finishing seventh in the 400 hurdles in 1:28.43.
The Lake Placid girls final point-earners were Jenna Fay and Mya Marshall. Fay was seventh in the 1,500-meter in 5:31.37, while Marshall placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:13.71.
On the boys side, Aidan Fay was the top scorer for the Blue Bombers. Fay (4:33.60) placed second in the 1,600-meter, trailing only Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer (4:27.59). Fay also placed third in the 3,200 in 10:29.98 and fourth in the 800 in 2:08.78.
Teammate Jim Guglielmi put together a fifth-place result in the 400-meter, with a personal best time of 57.65.
