LAKE PLACID — The 40th annual High Peaks Cyclery Mini-Triathlon Series is slated to kick off on Monday, June 24 at the Mirror Lake Beach.

The race series is hosted every Monday night until Aug. 12. This summer’s races start at 6:30 p.m. and feature a 400-yard swim in Mirror Lake, a 12-mile bike around the River Road Loop, and a 3-mile run down and back Mount Whitney Road.

The swim starts on the beach directly next to the public tennis courts in Lake Placid. The swim is an out and back on the right shoulder of Mirror Lake. There will be a big orange buoy to indicate the turn around point for the swim. If the buoy is missing, the turn around point is a red hydrant along the shore.

Following the swim, the competitors will bike out of the transition area, turn left on Mirror Lake Drive and follow Mirror Lake’s shore for 1 mile before turning right onto Northwood Drive. At the end of Northwood Drive they will take a left onto Route 86 towards Wilmington, before turning right onto River Road. Once the racers have reached the end of the road, they’ll turn right onto state Route 73. The bikers will head back into town, and once they reach the top of Mill Hill they’ll turn right onto state Route 86 and head back to Northwood Road. Once they make it to Northwood Road, they’ll bike all the way down the road until they reach Mirror Lake Drive and turn left to return to the transition area.

After leaving the transition area, the competitors will start the running portion by turning left onto Mirror Lake Drive before turning right onto Mount Whitney Road, where they’ll run about a half-mile to telephone pole number 13 before turning around and returning to finish line.

The cost is $20 for an individual and $45 per team. Registration and payment can be done in-person each week starting at 5:30pm at the Mirror Lake boat launch (the location of the race start and transition area). Cash or check is preferred.

Awards will be given each week to the top three men’s and women’s competitors with the best overall times along with a random raffle winner. Awards will start anywhere from 8 to 8:30 p.m.
