SLP boys lacrosse stuns Salmon River

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Placid boys lacrosse team stunned the No. 3 Salmon River Shamrocks with a 12-11 overtime victory in the Section X, Class D quarterfinal round on May 21 in Salmon River.

Senior Owen Muncil connected on the game-winning goal to send his team to the sectional semifinal round today. The team, which is the sixth seed in the tournamet, will take on the No. 2 Colton-Pierrepont Colts on the road on May 23. While the team was outshot 40-25 against Salmon River, SLP had strong play from its goalie Charlie Wilson, who recorded 10 saves in the win.

SLP improved to 4-10 overall with the win. During the regular season, the team split with Colton-Pierrepont, topping to the Colts 10-9 on April 24 on the road, but most recently fell 17-10 at home on May 18.

The winner of the May 23 semifinal game will face the winner of top-seeded Canton and No. 4 St. Lawrence in the championship game on May 29.
