Four win youth luge national titles
LAKE PLACID — The Youth National Luge Championships were held at the Olympic Sports Complex luge track here on Saturday, April 6. The championships featured 48 of the nation’s top boys and girls who competed in two age groups: Youth A for ages 15-17 and Youth B for kids 14 and under.
In the Youth A girls race, Talia Tonn of Cecil, Wisconsin won with a two-run combined time of 1 minute, 31.765 seconds. Caylin Weaver of Indianapolis, Indiana was second in 1:32.359, while Vermontville native Sadie Martin earned third place.
The Youth A boys gold medal went to Seth Coates of Potsdam. He crossed the finish line in 1:32.154. Josh Berzowski of Pulaski, Wisconsin won the silver medal in 1:32.950, and Andrew Robertson of South Jordan, Utah took home the bronze in 1:34.121.
Tristan Gable of Camano Island, Washington topped the time sheets for the Youth B boys division in 1:35.932. Maxim Zayonc of Lake Placid, the son of two Olympic luge athletes, finished .015 behind Gable in 1:35.947. The bronze went to Landon Kozik of Norfolk, Massachusetts in 1:37.896.
The Youth B girls race saw Delilah Salgado of Ashland, Massachusetts victorious in 1:36.907. The silver medal went to Miriel Schomaker of Park City, Utah with a time of 1:42.089. The bronze medalist was Emmelina Campos of Clarendon Hills, Illinois in 1:43.272.
The USA Luge season will officially wrap up on April 13 with the Norton Masters National Championship in Lake Placid.
