SLP girls fall in sectional title game

The Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey season came to an end on Feb. 5 evening after suffering a 9-0 loss to the Beekmantown Eagles in the Section VII girls hockey championship game at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Stafford Arena.

The Eagles scored three goals in the first period before connecting on five in the second and one in the third. With the win, Beekmantown will take on Adirondack United in the NYSPHSAA girls hockey state tournament on Thursday.

Avery Parker and Sophia Amaya-Gutierrez scored two goals each for the Eagles, while Janna Ruest, Ele Fullum, Meegan Burdo, Lily Pratt and Katie McCormick each netted one goal. Beekmantown outshot SLP 38-15.

SLP’s Bradana Gillman had 17 saves, while Allie LaHart came into the game during the third period and had 12 stops. Beekmantown’s Kori-Lynne Lamoy and Bailey Barnett split time in net, earning the shutout with a combined 15 saves.

SLP finished the season with an overall record of 3-15-2.
