Lake Placid cross country team take on CVAC’s best
Bombers’ Aidan Fay places second overall in boys race

The Lake Placid cross country team competed against the top runners in Section VII on Oct. 28 and posted some solid individual results.
The Blue Bombers’ Aidan Fay continued his stand-out season by finishing second overall in the the boys Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Championship race at Camp Dudley in Westport. Fay, a junior, crossed the finish line in 16 minutes, 50.38 seconds.
Saranac Lake’s Jake Kollmer won the boys’ race in 16:42.56, marking the fifth year in a row a Red Storm boys runner has won the individual title. Ticonderoga’s Garrett Beebe was third in 16:51.34. The boys race featured 107 runners.
The Saranac Central Spartans won the boys race with 70 points. The Beekmantown Eagles took second with 86 points, followed by the Ticonderoga Sentinels in third with 106 and Saranac Lake in fourth with 109. The Blue Bomber boys placed eighth with 176 points.
Colin Francis posted an 11th-place finish for Lake Placid in 17:51.87. Colton Kondrat was 55th in 20:39.53, Jim Guglielmi took 65th in 21:20.22 and Sean Roth earned 72nd in 22:11.07.
The Blue Bombers were rounded out by Jesse Carlson (23:08.75) in 80th place, Nicholas O’Brien (23:49.93 in 86th), Robert Bowen (26:35.91 in 92nd) and Calvin Branchaud (28:19.12 in 96th).
The Red Storm had five top 30 finishes, with Sam Bickford taking 24th in 18:41.83, Keaton Daley (18:55.91) in 25th, Max Hall (19:04.43) in 29th and Sam Madden (19:05.01) in 30th.
The Spartans won the girls championship with a team score of 39, outscoring Saranac Lake, which had 57 points. The Northeastern Clinton Cougars were third with 96 points. Lake Placid had just four girls runners and didn’t count toward the teams scoring.
Kai McKinnon had the top finish for Lake Placid, placing sixth overall in 21:03.20. The Blue Bombers’ Holly Erenstone (24:21.39) was 25th, while Jenna Fay (24:52.10) and Harley Cohen (24:57.67) finished in 32nd and 33rd, respectively.
The Red Storm had five runners inside the top 20 in the girls race, which featured 63 runners altogether. Asa Bruno led the way for Saranac Lake, placing fifth in a time of 20:57.89. Phoebe Peer finished in ninth overall for the Red Storm in 21:38.91, followed by Addison Ash in 22:27.47 and Cadence Kennedy in 22:41.45 for 15th and 16th place, respectively. Saranac Lake’s Lila Zobel (23:40.71) took 19th.
Peru’s Maddy Welc (19:20.45) won the girls race, followed by Ticonderoga’s Avery Blanchard (19:30.66) in second and Saranac Central’s Sienna Boulds (20:21.25) in third.
The Lake Placid cross country teams will prepare for the Section VII Championships and state qualifiers on Nov. 3 at the Cobble Hill Golf Course in Elizabethtown. The girls race will kick off at 1:15 p.m. The boys will start at 2:15 p.m.
