LAKE PLACID — After a successful season, five Lake Placid baseball players were recognized for their solid performance by being selected to Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference all-star teams.

Lake Placid’s PJ Colby was named league MVP, while three Blue Bombers athletes from Keene — Jon Caito, Max Hyman and Vann Morrelli — were chosen as first-team all-stars. Teammate Jarrett Mihill of Lake Placid was an honorable mention.

The Blue Bombers went 12-4 overall, winning the Section VII, Class D crown for the first time since 2018 and the MVAC League title for the second season in a row after finishing league play undefeated.

The team’s record was one of the best Lake Placid has had in more than 15 years. Three of those losses came against Champlain Valley Athletic Conference opponents and its fourth and final loss to the Hartford-Fort Edward Tanaforts in the state sub regional playoff game.

Colby, a senior, earned his honor as a pitcher. The southpaw dominated, winning all eight of his starts in MVAC play. He also led Lake Placid on the mound with 88 strikeouts and finished the season with a 2.10 earned runs average. His top performance came against Bolton/Schroon Lake when he tossed a 12-strikeout no-hitter.

Colby also produced offensively. He was second on the team in runs batted in with 17, while also finishing with 18 hits with a .439 batting average.

Morrelli, a sophomore, was dominant from the plate with a .511 batting average, recording 24 hits in his 47 at-bats. While Morrelli predominantly played shortstop when Colby wasn’t pitching, Morrelli stepped up finishing the season with a 2-1 record while earning two saves. He also struck out 26 batters.

Playing in the third base position Caito, a sophomore, led the Blue Bombers in hits with 27 and RBIs with 19. He was also second on the team with a .500 average in team-high 54 at-bats. Caito had nine multi-hit performances, including five three-hit games.

Hyman, a sophomore, batted in the leadoff spot for Lake Placid and came up big. The Blue Bomber outfielder was third on the team with a .444 average, with 20 hits in 45 at-bats. Hyman led the team in runs scored with 25 and was the lone Lake Placid athlete to hit a home run, which came against Crown Point during the regular season.

After being named an honorable mention last season, Mihill, a sophomore, repeated his efforts. The second-baseman batted a .356 average, with 16 hits and 14 RBIs in 45 at-bats.
