Bombers baseball tops Panthers
The Lake Placid Baseball had the bats rolling early and often on April 28 on their home diamond, with the team combining for 16 hits in the ball game en route to its 14-7 victory over the defending Section VII, Class D Champion, Crown Point Panthers.
Max Hyman paced the Blue Bombers from the plate, batting four-for-four. Hyman also scored four runs, had three RBIs, a double and a home run.
Lake Placid also had strong at-bats from Jon Caito, Jarrett Mihill, Van Morelli and Hyler Isham, all four of whom had two hits each. PJ Colby, Ryan Curry and Foster Wood each recorded a double in the win for the Blue Bombers.
Lake Placid jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in first inning and from that point on the team scored at least one run in every inning to improve to 4-1 overall. The Blue Bombers have scored 10 or more runs in all four of their league wins.
The Blue Bombers also got solid pitching from Colby, the starter, and Morelli, the reliever. The duo combined to strike out 13 batters while giving up nine hits.
Crown Point’s Reese Pertak, Evan Carey and Ryan Russell created havoc for Lake Placid’s pitchers all evening, scattering seven hits, while scoring five runs. Russell finished with three hits, while Pertak and Carey had a pair of hits in the loss.
Russell started the game on the mound and struck out three Blue Bomber batters, while Carey came in during the sixth inning and had two strikeouts.
