Humphries continues bobsled success

ALTENBERG, Germany — Top U.S. bobsledder Kaillie Humphries took home World Cup gold in women’s monobob for the second weekend in a row on the Altenberg track. This time, she also won gold in the two-woman event with brakeman Kaysha Love.

Humphries’ winning times this weekend was 2:00.61 in monobob and 1:54.79 in two-woman. Nicole Vogt placed 10th in monobob with a time of 2:04.43. In two-woman bobsled, Vogt and Macy Tarlton placed 11th with a time of 1:58.61.

Humphries remains the overall IBSF points leader in monobob.

“It was a good weekend,” Humphries said about her two wins. “It was great to have Kaysha back for her first race after coming in fifth at World Junior Championships! There were some timing issues in this race, but overall we’re feeling very excited and optimistic going into World Championships.”

Another highlight of the weekend for the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation was Austin Florian taking fourth place in men’s skeleton with a time of 1:54.86. This was his highest finish in a World Cup competition.

In other men’s skeleton news, Andrew Blaser placed 20th with a time of 1:57.40. In women’s skeleton, Kelly Curtis placed seventh with a 1:57.93 time, Hallie Clarke placed 15th with 1:58.64, and Kendall Wesenberg placed 18th with 2:00.20.

“Altenberg always provides a challenge to all athletes,” U.S. skeleton head coach Matt Antoine said. “Austin was a bit disappointed in the first week in Altenberg as the race didn’t reflect his ability. After some adjustments and really working to refine a few areas of the track, week two was fantastic. I’m really proud of how he performed and the growth that he showed on his way to his best World Cup finish. Kelly likewise showed her growth in week two and really put some areas of the track together for another great result. Ultimately, the continued willingness to learn and adjust is all I can ever ask of the team, and each and every one has been open to that task this season.”

The action continues on Jan. 28 in St. Moritz, Switzerland for the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation World Championships.

Starting at $1.44/week.
