LAKE PLACID — The IBSF World Push Championships took place on Dec. 9 and 10 at the ice house facility in the Mountain Pass Lodge at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

Dec. 9

On the first day of competition, in men’s skeleton, Yin Zheng, fifth at the Beijing 2022 Olympics, clocked the best time in all three runs and is the 2022/2023 push world champion. Silver went to Felix Keisinger of Germany (0.18 seconds back) ahead of Matt Weston of Great Britain (0.25 seconds back) with bronze. Team USA’s Austin Florian took sixth place, with teammates Nicholas Tucker and Bradley Nicol finishing eighth and 11th, respectively.

In women’s monobob, the push world champion is Lisa Buckwitz, of Germany. Canada’s Cynthia Appiah (0.10 seconds back) and U.S. bobsledder Kaysha Love (0.15 seconds back) took second and third places, respectively. Lauren Brzozowski of the U.S. placed fourth.

In the two-man bobsled, Kristopher Horn and Adrian Adams of the U.S. took the title. Just one hundredth of a second behind them, Switzerland’s Simon Friedli and Sandro Michel finished with silver while Erick Gilson Vianna Jeronimo and Edson Ricardo Martins from Brazil finished third (0.13 seconds behind). The U.S. two-man team of Geoffrey Gadbois and Manteo Mitchell placed fifth.

“The competition was absolutely thrilling and it was great being able to compete on the world stage again,” Horn said in a statement. “The event was done beautifully and I hope there’s more like it in the future. I’m excited to be working toward the World Cup as a pilot. Adrian, Manteo, and Martin are a relatively newer crew, but they performed exceptionally well together.”

Dec. 10

In women’s skeleton, Mystique Ro of the U.S. clocked the best time in all three starts and is the new World Champion. Canada’s Jane Channel (0.12 seconds back) took second, and Brogan Crowley of Great Britain (0.22 seconds back) placed third. Ro’s teammates Hallie Clarke and Kelly Curtis finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

“I was happy to have the opportunity to compete in my first ever World Cup Level Event,” Ro said. “It’s such a different experience than I’m used to, but I’m excited to experience it again. The ice house has been an amazing tool to practice a key part of sliding, the start. The banked reps proved instrumental to producing much more consistency and efficiency.”

In two-woman bobsled, Lisa Buckwitz and Neele Schuten from Germany won the World Push Championships ahead of the Canadian team Cynthia Appiah and Erica Voss (0.26 seconds back), silver, and the U.S. team of Riley Compton and Emily Renna (0.88 seconds back), bronze. The U.S. team of Nicole Vogt and Jestena Mattson finished fourth.

The four-man bobsled competition was won by the U.S. team of pilot Kristopher Horn, with teammates Adrian Adams, Manteo Mitchell and Martin Christofferson. Silver went to the Swiss crew of Simon Friedli (0.05 seconds back) ahead of the Austrians of pilot Markus Treichl (0.08 seconds back). The U.S. team piloted by Geoffrey Gadbois — with teammates Carsten Vissering, Quentin Willey and Darius Joseph — finished in sixth place.
