LAKE PLACID — Four Lake Placid varsity baseball players and their head coach were recognized for their efforts this season by being selected to the Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference all-stars.

The Blue Bombers’ JJ Ledwith, Vann Morelli and PJ Colby were named Division I all-stars, while Jarrett Mihill was named an honorable mention. Lake Placid’s head coach, Brian Brandes, was named MVAC coach of the year.

Lake Placid’s squad, which had a mix of veterans and newcomers, put together a solid season that saw the team winning the MVAC regular-season league title, with a record of 9-5.

The team ultimately met its match during the postseason when it moved up to the Section VII Class C playoffs. The Blue Bombers fell by just one run to AuSable Valley in the first round playoff matchup.

Ledwith was a big reason for Lake Placid’s success this season. A catcher, he led the Blue Bombers in hits (21) and stolen bases (24) this season.

In the final game of his varsity career, Ledwith batted four for four from the plate, while driving in one run.

Colby was Lake Placid’s top pitcher all season, leading the team with the most batters struck out (56) and the lowest earned run average (2.33).

One of Colby’s best outings came against Crown Point when he struck out 15 batters to help lead the team to a 4-3 win.

In their first year of varsity baseball, Mihill and Morelli proved to be difference-makers right away.

Morelli, who played shortstop and pitcher, put up numbers on both the mound and up to bat. He finished the season with the second most stolen bases (17) and the second-highest slugging percentage (.542), while having the second-lowest ERA (3.11). He also finished the season leading the team in triples with two.
