LAKE PLACID — Despite windy and cold temperatures, the Lake Placid tennis teams were able to come away with victories over the Northern Adirondack Bobcats at home on April 27.

The Blue Bombers girls team posted a 5-0 victory over Northern Adirondack, while the Lake Placid boys won 3-2.

Lake Placid’s Reagan Levitt, the top girls’ singles player, defeated the Bobcats’ Reese LaFave, 7-5, 6-1.

“(Levitt) had to come back in the first set and ended up winning seven to five and winning six-one in the second set,” Lake Placid’s girl coach Jon Fremante said. “(She) had a great match with their number one girl.”

The Blue Bombers’ No. 2 singles player, Elsie Fitzsimmons, and No. 3 singles player, Melanie Megliore, won their matches after Northern Adirondack forfeited.

Fremante said the Bobcats had two girls who couldn’t make the match so it ended up being a three-match contest.

In the girls’ top doubles contest, Julia Crawford and Grace Ericson teamed up for a 6-2, 6-2 win over Northern Adirondack’s Jo Mead and Hailee James. In second doubles, Bailey Smith and Madison Tyler defeated Keena Magoon and Makenzie Begore 6-4, 6-4 to earn the victory for the Blue Bombers.

“Both of our doubles teams played strong tonight,” Fremante said. “They played consistent, had good control of the ball and good placement of the ball. They had to battle back a few times in a couple of sets, but in the end, they came out on top because of their consistent play.”

On the boys’ side, all three singles players were victorious for Lake Placid.

The No.1 boys player, Sonja Teioshi, who competes on the boys’ tennis team, and Tristan Spotts, the No. 2 boys player, won their respective matches by identical scores of 6-0, 6-0.

In the third boys’ singles match, Kenny Lawless came out on top after going into a tiebreaker. The Blue Bombers’ Lawless defeated Tristan Craig, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

Lake Placid boys coach Tyler Chase said it was nice to work through a tiebreaker early in the season.

In the doubles category, the Blue Bombers’ top doubles team of Harrison and Nash Carlisto were defeated by Northern Adirondack’s Hunter Trombley and Parker Manor, 3-6, 4-6.

“I was particularly impressed with my doubles,” Chase said. “They did not win, but I was impressed with their comeback in the second set. They were behind five to one. They rallied up and got it to five to four and then it didn’t quite get there. It does show the tennis being such a head game and they’ve got to stick with it.”

Lake Placid’s second doubles team Owen Keal and Parker Scanio found themselves in a close matchup but were ultimately defeated 1-6, 6-3, 4-6.
