LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid baseball team found themselves in a battle against Bolton/Schroon Lake on April 26, but costly mistakes and some inexperience at the varsity level led to an 8-6 loss.

“We’re young,” Lake Placid head coach Brian Brandes said. “Hopefully, that type of game where you can come back will be a win later in the year. We were missing two of our kids, so that hurt.”

After taking a 6-4 lead heading into the seventh and final inning of play, the Blue Bombers’ defense allowed Bolton/Schroon Lake to score four straight runs to claim the win.

“The guys that went in have to come in and do the job and for the most part they did,” Brandes said. “It’s the fielding, right now that we need to work on. It’s almost like we took two weeks off.”

Bolton/Schroon Lake got off to a quick start, scoring twice in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. But the team was quickly cooled down when PJ Colby caught fire from the mound. Colby struck out nine batters before being relieved in the sixth inning.

After three straight scoreless innings from both teams, Lake Placid finally got the bats going in the fourth inning, scoring their first run. In the next inning, the Blue Bombers followed up their first score by driving in four runs and another run in the sixth. Bolton/Schroon Lake tallied two runs in the sixth inning.

Lake Placid finished with 11 hits, including two doubles, while Bolton/Schroon Lake recorded seven hits. The Blue Bombers had a tough day in the field with five errors.

Lake Placid’s Max Hyman, Sam Hooker and Foster Wood were solid offensively, recording two hits each. Hyman and JJ Ledwith both had a double.

With the loss, the Blue Bombers dropped to 0-2 to start the season. The team was slated to take on Indian Lake/Long Lake on the road on April 27.
