LAKE PLACID — The Jack Shea 1932 Rink was host to the USS Short Track Age Group National Championships from March 31 to April 3.

Speedskaters from all over the country at the event practiced and competed. The distances competed were 500-meter, 777-meter, 1000-meter and 1500-meter.

A special smaller course was laid out for the younger skaters, 10 and under who skated on a special 85m track as part of a national “Future of Speed” camp.

The event had a speedskating clinic, as well as, an Olympian meet-and-greet for aspiring skaters and fans. Several Beijing Olympic Short Track speedskaters were on hand to conduct the clinic for younger and beginner skaters including 2022 Olympian Ryan Pivirotto.

The competition served as a test event for the Winter World University Games 2023, which will take place in Lake Placid on Jan. 12-22, 2022.
