Team Placid Planet will host the 2021 West-Woodward Memorial Time Trial/New York State Bicycle Time Trial Championships on Aug. 1. The time trials will begin at 11 a.m. and will go until 3 p.m.

There will be categories for age groups ranging from 9 to 75, as well as male and female groups. Categories for paracyclists will be offered.

The race will start in Upper Jay and use state Route 9N between Jay and Keene.

Most racers will do 18 miles. There are shorter versions of the course for kids 9 to 14 (7 miles) and for beginners and masters over 60 years old (10 miles). Holders of a USA Cycling annual license (also available at the race) are eligible for state championship medals for top three finishes in each category.

Winners can purchase a custom champions jersey at a discount. For elite (Category 1 and 2) men and women there are cash prizes for the top three finishers.

The race will honor Don West (1937-2014) and Scott Woodward (1955-2016). Both were longtime competitors and organizers of cycling events in the North Country. All proceeds will go to local charities they supported.
