Alex Matz has done it again.

Matz rode Davidson to victory in the $100,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix at the I Love New York Horse Show on July 11 in Lake Placid.

Matz, 24, won his first career Grand Prix last Sunday on Cashew CR at the Lake Placid Horse Show on July 4.

With the win he became the sixth rider ever to sweep both the Lake Placid Horse Show Grand Prix events in the same year. The most recent person to achieve this feat was Darragh Kenny in 2012.

Of the 30 entries in the Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix just six were able to have a clean ride over the 16-jump course and advance to the tiebreaker.

In the eight-jump tiebreaker course, Carly Anthony was the first up and set the mark high as she rode a clean ride on Jet Blue.

Following Anthony’s fault-free performance the next four entries had faults. That led to just one competitor, Alex Matz.

Matz went fault-free and finished with the fastest time, which was almost 4 seconds less than Anthony.

Along with first place, Matz finished fourth with a four-fault ride on Flash. Third place went to McLain Ward. Ward finished the tiebreaker with four faults on Blossom Z.

The end of the I Love New York Grand Prix marked the end of the two-week long Lake Placid Horse Shows.

Starting at $1.44/week.
