LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Summit Youth Classic kicked off its annual lacrosse tournament at the North Elba Athletic Fields on Monday.

The tournament showcased boys lacrosse teams that aged from eight and under up to 16 and under.

“We have some groups from Illinois and Maryland, so we have some different people coming up to the Adirondacks and they are enjoying the tournament so far,” event director Kevin Leveille said.

Due to the tournament being cancelled last year, it underwent changes to ensure safety for all those involved.

“Usually, we have around 60 teams but we reduced it down to 42 this year to keep things more organized and under control. I think it was a good move for sure,” Leveille said.

According to Leveille, many of the parents and older children had been vaccinated and the tournament staff did everything they could to maintain safety.

“We are following the New York state guidelines, the Essex County guidelines and the guidelines for the town,” Leveille said. “We reduced the size of the event by about 20%. We have been operating tournaments in Saratoga and all through New York, and everything has been solid and safe. Most of these groups are groups that have been together all year, so they kind of are in their own pods.”

The Summit Lacrosse Society hosted tournaments in Albany, Saratoga, Syracuse, Denver and in California earlier in the year. Lake Placid will host another lacrosse tournament in August.

The youth tournament wrapped up on June 30.

Starting at $1.44/week.
