LP starts volleyball season, falls to Peru in opener

LAKE PLACID — Better late than never could be the theme this spring when it comes to fall sports.

After the coronavirus pandemic forced sports normally playcd in the fall to be canceled when the school year began, a month-long season finally kicked off for the Lake Placid volleyball team this week.

On Tuesday, the Blue Bombers played their first match and dropped a 3-0 decision to Peru.

Although Lake Placid held early leads in all three games, the Nighthawks went on to sweep by 25-15, 25-18 and 25-17 scores.

Starting her third and final season of high school varsity volleyball senior Dylan Bashaw paced Lake Placid with five points, three aces, three kills, three digs and five assists.

Junior Aubrey Hayes also had a strong varsity debut for the Blue Bombers, finishing with five points, six assists, two kills, two digs and one ace.

Also for Lake Placid, Karis Hudson had four points, two aces, four kills and four digs; Melanie Megliore registered a point, one ace, two kills and four digs; Isabella Armstrong had four points, one ace, two kills and five digs; and Samantha Clark added three points, one ace and one kill.
