375 turn out for LP Classic

LAKE PLACID – Dan Nix of Carthage and Sarah Keyes of Saranac Lake were the top male and female runners Saturday, Sept. 6 in the 44th annual Lake Placid Classic half marathon.

Nix completed the 13.1-mile course through the village and to the turnaround point on River Road in 1 hour, 19 minutes, 51 seconds. Andrew Lavin of Lake Placid wasn’t far behind with his 1:22:06 finish. Brian Wilson of Dannemora was hot on Lavin’s heels, finishing in 1:22:54. Marc Galvin of Lake Placid was fourth in 1:25:11.

Keyes was the top female half-marathoner. She finished eighth overall with a time of 1:29:08. Megan Papineau of Burlington, Vermont was the second woman with a time of 1:32:01 and Hannah Kadah was third in 1:41:57.

The event also featured a 10-kilometer race. Maxime Leboeuf of Gatineau, Quebec was the top overall finisher in the 10k with a time of 32:40.60. He was followed by fellow countryman Oliver Babineau, who crossed the line in 34:48.44.

Tina Morrison of Washington, DC was the first woman to cross the line and was fourth overall in the 10k. She clocked a 40:05.45, while Janne Rand of Lake Placid was in range with her fifth-place overall finish in 40:23.42.

The race drew 375 overall runners, 215 in the half marathon and 160 for the 10k. More than 445 people registered for the race, but the prediction of storms resulted in numerous cancellations. The rain didn’t start to fall until the race had ended.

The Lake Placid Classic will donate proceeds from the event to youth sports programs in the Lake Placid region.
