LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid girls hockey team achieved two historic firsts for the high school’s program this past season.

Early in the season, the Blue Bombers defeated Beekmantown – the defending state champions – for the first time. The Blue Bombers then accomplished another program first in the postseason, recording their first victory in playoffs with a 3-2 overtime semifinal win over Albany Academy.

Five players from the team were honored as all-stars by the Upstate Girls Hockey League, and Sandy Huber was named coach of the year.

Sophomore goalie Tanner Stanton received the top honor for Lake Placid by being named the league’s co-player of the year. A starter in the Blue Bombers’ nets since eighth-grade, Stanton played in 17 games for Lake Placid and posted an 8-9-1 record. The team finished the season with a 9-10 mark.

Stanton made 407 saves while giving up 43 goals for a 2.33 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.

As one of just two seniors on the team this season, Emily Godin was named a first-team forward for the Blue Bombers. As a team captain, she scored five goals and added four assists. One of Godin’s goals was the overtime game-winner in the semifinal round of the playoffs.

Just an eighth-grader, Jayde Dukette also landed a spot as a first-team forward. Traveling from Tupper Lake to join the squad, Dukette led the Blue Bombers in goals scored with nine and also chipped in five assists to finish with 14 points.

Sam Barney, a sophomore, was Lake Placid’s top scorer and was named a second-team forward. She netted six goals and recorded nine assists for a 15-point season.

Junior Payton Barney and sophomore Briana Savage were named second-team defense for the Blue Bombers. Barney finished with two goals and three assists and Savage netted three goals.

Jillian Martin was the only Saranac Lake player named an all-league selection. The senior captain was a second-team pick at forward.
