LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid International Hockey Tournament held a special dedication ceremony to three lifelong supporters of Lake Placid athletics on Saturday during the 52nd annual event.

The ceremony recognized Randy Martin, Guy Westcott, Jr. and Betty Reid – all of whom died in 2013. Family members were on hand to receive plaques in their honor.

Martin participated in the Lake Placid Youth Athletic Association hockey and baseball programs in his youth and has coached and officiated in the hockey program over the years. He was pre-deceased by his brother Johan and his parents Gene and Gloria, who were instrumental in the early history of the LPYAA.

“He always could be seen at our youth baseball, soccer and hockey games supporting the LPYAA,” according to a press release. “His knowledge of the history of the program was extensive and will surely be missed, especially during the International Tournament.”

Westcott was born in Lake Placid in 1922. He served in the Navy during World War II, before raising a family of six sons. In 1962, he became a member of the Lake Placid Pee Wee Athletic Association, serving as president in 1966-67 and again in 1981.

Westcott was a member of the US Amateur Hockey Association and served as its vice president. He went on to chair the Romeo Proulx Midget Tournament as well as being an administrator of the Silver Stick International Tournament that included Canadian and American Pee Wee and Bantam teams. He was inducted into the Lake Placid Hall of Fame on October 10, 2008.

Reid was an regular volunteer of the Lake Placid Youth Athletic Association from 1961 thru 1998. Not only was she willing to help with running the popcorn machine or working in the kitchen for the banquet dinners, but she also loved the game and was there to cheer for her grandson Corey Reid as well as the rest of the players.

Reid brought her sons Ron and Mark Reid up through the association and then her two grandsons Corey and RJ Reid as well.
