Lake Placid girls pick up two wins

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid girls hockey team beat Saranac Lake 4-1 on Dec. 20 at the Olympic Center.

Emily Godin had two goals for the Blue Bombers, scoring just 44 seconds into the game and then again in the second period. Payton Barney assisted on the first goal, while Alexa Whitney and Morgan Meyer assisted on the second.

Lake Placid’s Jayde Dukette also scored a first-period goal, with assists from Sam Barney and Lizzie Bimonte.

Whitney scored a second-period goal on an assist from Godin as the Blue Bombers took control of the game with a 4-0 advantage going into the final period.

Saranac Lake got on the scoreboard in the third period when Kate Stevens scored a power-play goal. Danielle Patraw picked up the assist.

Blue Bombers goalie Tanner Stanton had eight saves while Lindsay Reeve had 19 for the Red Storm. Lake Placid outshot the Red Storm 23-9 in the contest

Lake Placid improved to 4-0 in league play and 6-3 overall with the victory.

It was the second win in a row for the Blue Bombers, who started the week with a 2-0 victory over Salmon River on Dec. 17. Barney and Kylie Kroes each scored goals against Salmon River, while Dukette, Elizabeth Bimonte and Carissa Kennedy were credited with assists.

Stanton turned away 11 shots in the game as Lake Placid held a 19-11 shooting advantage.

The Blue Bombers scored both of their goals in the third period.

Kroes’ goal was the first varsity score of her career.
