Randy Winch for Wilmington town board

To the editor:

We are thrilled to share our endorsement of Randy Winch for Wilmington’s town board.

Randy Winch has an excellent reputation in our community. Those who have known Randy for many years know that he is down-to-earth, level headed, and helpful — but over the past few years Wilmington has seen another side of Randy Winch. Randy is willing to stand up, speak up, and go the extra mile for the things he believes in.

Randy is known for being trustworthy, reliable, and willing to lend a hand — and those who attend town board meetings know he can be counted on to chime in with sorely needed doses of common sense.

We are supporting Randy Winch because he is the most qualified candidate for Wilmington’s town board. In addition to his character and his reputation in the community, he has served on Wilmington’s Board of Assessment Review and is currently a member of the town’s planning board. Perhaps most importantly, Randy has a lifetime of knowledge, perspective, and insight about the town he hopes to represent. Randy has seen Wilmington’s small businesses flourish, and he’s seen formerly prosperous businesses close, deteriorate, and become eyesores. He understands Wilmington’s long-term trends, and he is concerned about the town’s future.

For more than two years Randy has attended almost all of the town board’s monthly meetings and work sessions, where he speaks up and asks pointed questions. At these meetings Randy often asks the questions that are on other people’s minds.

Randy’s priorities — lowering property taxes; easing up on the clearcutting; preserving residents’ quality of life (including their right to peace and quiet); maintaining the things we have instead of chasing after the next mirage — are the priorities of hundreds of Wilmington residents. Unfortunately, they have not been the priorities of Wilmington’s recent town boards. It is for this reason that Randy has again agreed to shoulder the burden and step up for Wilmington.

Randy is not running for office because he wants to be a big shot or because he wants to be in the limelight. He is running for office because he cares about Wilmington.

We appreciate him, and we are grateful that he is willing to step up for us, and for Wilmington.

Randy has shown — not with words, but with actions — that he is paying attention to the things that matter to our town. Whatever may be said over the next few months, we know that Randy is the candidate most committed to supporting the positive changes Wilmington needs.

We have total faith that Randy will be an excellent advocate for our town and its residents.

We hope you will join us in proudly voting for Randy Winch this fall. We know him, we trust him, and we believe in him.

Randy loves this town.

Sincerely,

Laura Hooker
