Fear of the facts?
To the editor:
In past election cycles, political candidates sought out various means to get their messages in front of the voters. Debates, interviews and town halls being the common means to get their positions out. Obviously, this cycle is historic with twists and turns that are unprecedented.
For over 50 years, the TV news magazine “60 Minutes” has offered a detailed interview with leading presidential candidates with all in the past accepting their invitation. This cycle the republican candidate initially accepted then declined their offer. Why? Fact checks, c’mon, really! I never thought that we’d see the day that a political party would shy away from a free megaphone because someone might challenge their lies. No fact checking is the new Trump/Vance mantra. During the vice presidential debate, Vance chided one of the hosts because, God forbid, they checked his facts. Declining the “60 Minutes” interview due to fact checks. Negotiated rules for the presidential debates excluding fact checks. Why, does the truth scare them?
Instead, Trump/Vance are flooding the airwaves on friendly networks that not only allow unfettered alternate facts (lies) they amplify them. If truth is something to fear, then we should fear the perpetrator of the lies. Alternate facts are lies plain and simple. Vote Harris/Walz. At least they don’t fear fact checks!
