Supporting the local newspaper

To the editor:

If you watch the national news, it seems that you have to read between the lines to know where the total truth lies.

Even local networks will sometimes send reporters to get interviews to support their position. Sometimes after being involved in an incident and then watching how it’s reported on TV leaves you wondering if you were really there?

This March marks 15 years that I have been in public office and I can honestly say that throughout that entire time, I have never once questioned an article that the Lake Placid News has reported on. You may not always like what the article has to say, but it is always factual. After the sale of our motel, that had been in our family for 69 years, I was amazed to learn things about my family and the Motel. that even I did not know. The Lake Placid News did a lot of research and did a great article.

I have seen this same commitment to detail and research by the reporters that have covered our board meetings over the last 15 years. I have been amazed at the hard work and time that goes into writing an article that we may just glance at for a few seconds.

It is easy to take the things that have been around since our childhood for granted and assume that they will always be there. The past few years has proven that is not the case and the things that we consider valuable, we need to support or they will be gone.

My parents brought me up to work hard, be honest, and be proud of the work that you do. I believe the same values apply to Lake Placid News, I urge you to support our local newspaper and become a subscriber as it is too valuable a resource to lose.
